1. Panelist: HarrisMartin’s Equifax Data Breach Litigation Conference (November 10, 2017 – Atlanta).

Gary’s presentation focused on the counseling of financial institutions and other businesses in the wake of the Equifax breach.

2. Panelist: Current Development and Strategies for Confronting Cyber and Data Security Risks in 2017: ABA Annual Meeting Section of Labor and Employment Law (August, 2017 – New York).

Gary spoke about the various theories of liability in data breach cases, as well as the different types of damages associated with a data breach.

3. Panelist: ACI’s 2nd Cross-Industry Interdisciplinary Summit on Defending and Managing Class Actions (April, 2017 – New York).

Gary spoke on the use of statistical evidence to support class claims, in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Tyson Foods v. Bouaphakeo.

4. Faculty Member: PBI’s 2016 Employment Law Institute West (November, 2016).

Gary spoke on proving damages in wage and hour and employment discrimination cases after the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Tyson Foods v. Bouaphakeo.

5. Panelist: ACI’s 28th National Forum on Wage & Hour Claims and Class Actions (September, 2016 – San Francisco).

Gary spoke on hot topics from the Plaintiffs’ perspective in the area of wage and hour law.

6. Panelist: PBI’s Hot Topics in Wage and Hour Law (June, 2016 – Pittsburgh).

Gary spoke about independent contractor misclassification; payroll issues for non-exempt employees; and ethical issues regarding wage and hour litigation.

7. Panelist: PBI’s Advanced Cyber security Law (June, 2016 – Pittsburgh).

Gary spoke about the composition of plaintiff classes in data breach litigation, as well as the theories of liability and defenses, including the economic loss doctrine and challenges to Article III standing.

8. Panelist: ACI’s Cross-Industry Interdisciplinary Summit on Defending and Managing Class Actions (April, 2016 – New York).

Gary spoke on the Class Action Fairness Act and its impact on class actions, particularly with regard to venue and removal considerations.

Gary spoke on data breach and cybersecurity litigation.

Gary spoke on the differences between Rule 23 class actions and collective actions under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

14. Panelist: ACBA’s Federal Court Section Class/Collective Action Seminar (November, 2014 – Pittsburgh).

Gary served on a panel with several federal court judges and class action practitioners, discussing the differences between Rule 23 class actions versus collective actions under the Fair Labor Standards Act, in the context of settlement, preemptory challenges, and discovery.
